Blood Pressure Numbers

Top number is systolic reading.

Systolic represents the maximum pressure exerted on the arteries.

​

Bottom number is diastolic reading.

Diastolic represents the minimum pressure in the arteries.

 

Normal - 120/80

Elevated - 120-129 over 80 or less

High Blood Pressure (stage 1) - 130-139 over 80-90

High Blood Pressure (stage 2) - 140 or higher over 90 or higher

Hypertensive Crisis (seek immediate medical attention) - 

  180 or above over 120 or higher
